count the omer!

Counting the Omer is a biblical commandment to Israel to daily count 49 days after the first day of Passover until the Feast of Shavuot.

NOTE: Hebrew days always begin at sundown,

so the first day of the Omer begins on SUNDAY APRIL 13TH AT SUNDOWN

(This will be the first day when we count the Omer together at the Tikvat Family Passover Seder).

  • What if I forget to count the Omer?

Forgetting a day to count the Omer does not invalidate the mitzvah to count the next day(s). Some Jews continue the next day but Omit the blessing. However, we always recite a blessing before fulfilling one of God's biblical commandments. Therefore, it is perfectly acceptable to recite the blessing the next day and continue. Keep in mind that there is a direct connection between the Lord's Passover, the Sefirat Haomer and the Feast of Shavuot. Yeshua revealed Himself resurrected during the first 40 days of the Sefirat Haomer. He also taught that unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it cannot live again and produce fruit (John 12:24). So, it is a time of resurrection and a time of anticipation, as a Bride counts down the days until her wedding, we count down the days until we arrive at the Feast which commemorates the Theophany at Sinai and the outpouring of the Ruach (Holy Spirit) on the same day.
